Oropesa del Mar Town Council will set up a clothing and textile waste collection service in the municipality. To set it up, the council has launched a tender that includes contracting the management service for the collection, transport, storage and treatment of used textiles.
Micaela Bermúdez, Councillor for Social Services, explained: “Through this contract we want to support special employment centres with social initiatives or social integration companies, with the aim of helping the integration of the most vulnerable people in our municipality.”
The installation of these containers will allow reuse, recycling and recycling, thereby reducing the amount of materials deposited in landfills and the amount of materials sent to incineration. In addition, this is an initiative that aims to increase public awareness regarding waste management and environmental protection. “We have an environmental and social commitment that drives us to carry out projects that work to improve our municipality,” added the Councillor for Social Services.
This service will be complementary to the usual selective collection services, including a new fraction that will have reuse, recycling and recovery as its final destination.
