Plant 1.
the castle
In this room, a projection will allow us to relive the past of the fortress, learn about its characteristics, evolution and representative moments in its more than 1,200 years of history.
The castle occupies a privileged place in the term, facing the sea, discovers the sun, but looks sideways and watches the path that passes at its feet. The place has been frequented since prehistoric times, but the fortification is of Islamic origin (9th century).
In this space, you can also see ceramic pieces from the 10th to the 16th centuries, remains of a polychrome sculptural altarpiece from the 14th century or various projectiles from the siege by French troops in 1811.

Walls towers and piracy
The Fortifications and Defenses of Oropesa del Mar, built stone by stone, are an irreplaceable witness to the vicissitudes of this town over time.
Walls and coastal defense towers, lookouts for the Mediterranean in the face of constant fear of attacks by Barbary pirates.
The defensive system of the steep coast of Oropesa came to be made up of four impregnable towers: San Julián, Colomera, la Corda and Torre del Rey.
Pirates of the Mediterranean. The attack of 1536. Detailed audiovisual narration, on a large model of the territory, of this tragic day in which the hosts of the pirate Barbarossa assaulted the Villa, capturing numerous residents.

The collection
The showcases in this room present a selection of significant materials found in the castle and other archaeological sites in Oropesa del Mar.
Among the materials on display, an 18th century mortar and a collection of projectiles of various calibers stand out, elements that reveal the eventful history of the town in bygone times.
The exhibition is completed with a set of hand mills, storage, kitchen and table ceramics, together with construction and architectural materials from the castle.
Activities.
didactic classroom
We encourage the little ones, through an introductory video, to become collaborators with one of our archaeologists, to learn about their fortifications and defenses, the world of archeology or piracy in the Mediterranean.
The Museum, as a space for knowledge and reflection, as well as an innovative agent for the experimentation, creation and dissemination of knowledge, launches various workshops aimed at a wide audience.
The workshop is based on the museum concept. The little ones discover the history of Oropesa through play and mystery.

Itinerary 1: Tower of the King
Watchtower built in the 15th century to monitor and protect the municipality from incursions by Barbary pirates. We carry out guided tours of the tower, discovering its history and its corners to the little ones in a didactic and entertaining way. For higher level school groups we offer the possibility of doing a gynkana inside, learning in an autonomous and fun way.
Itinerary 2: Museum and workshop
The Oropesa del Mar Museum presents its contents through audiovisuals, listening posts, virtual reality glasses, as well as the exhibition of archaeological remains extracted in the excavations of the castle. The visits will be guided by a museum educator taking a tour of the different rooms. It concludes with a workshop that allows reinforcing the contents covered during the visit. Itinerary 3: Old Town
The municipality has different heritage resources for which a guided tour is carried out for school groups, where they will learn first-hand about the 9th century castle, a medieval prison and the different defensive resources of the population before pirate attacks. There is the possibility of making the different itineraries more flexible and adapting, as well as combining them with each other. - Shop
