We reproduce highly relevant documents found in the Historical Archive of the Nobility, in the Fernán Núñez Fund, and they are: the two photographs of the pictorial portraits of Doña Laura de Cervellón (C.2378, D.2) and Don Gaspar Mercader ( C.2378, D.140) located in the halls of the Casa de Fernán Núñez in Madrid and which illustrate the covers of this volume; the power given to Don Pedro de Cervellón, Baron of Oropesa del Mar, to approve the marriage agreements of his daughter Doña Laura in 1582 (C.173, D.34); the dispensation to contract marriage between Don Gaspar Mercader and Doña Laura in 1583 (C.173, D.35); their marriage agreements also from 1583 (C.173, D.33); Don Gaspar Mercader's will of 1603 (C.153, D.14); the legal memorial of Doña Laura, curator of her children, against Don Gaspar Mercader y Carroz, Count of Buñol and his stepson from 1605 (C.159, D.4); and the testament of Doña Laura de Cervellón, by which she names her son, Don Miquel de Cervellón y Mercader, universal heir of 1614 (C.153, D.29).
The bulk of the following study regarding Doña Laura de Cervellón is based mainly on the work of Amparo Felipo Orts, “De nobles, arms and letters. The Cervellón lineage in the Valencia of the seventeenth century”, in addition to the publication by Yolanda Gil Saura ““In the way of Pantoja”. Two unpublished portraits of Laura Cervellón and Gaspar Mercader, barons of Buñol and Oropesa” from the Bulletin of the Castellón Society of Culture and, of course, in the different contributions that Pedro Ruiz Palomero has made in his “It Happened in Oropesa”.
