History
The church was a donation from Laura de Cervellón to the new settlers of Oropesa in the First Puebla Charter of 1589. It was a building, which used to be a hostel, so that the parishioners could worship inside the walls, and not have to move to the old church located in Morro de Gos.
Cavanilles' 1795 plate does not show any bell tower. The French engraving of 1811 neither.
According to Pedro Ruiz Palomero, the bell tower is an attached tower outside the church, whose access is also external to the church itself. This access was built in 1880, and coexisted with another interior from the Casa Abadía, both at the level of the first floor of the tower. The ground floor of the bell tower was the sacristy of the Church, isolated and separated from the tower itself by an upper enclosure. The same author assures that the oldest bell dates from 1843.
The first flight of bells dates from 1868, after the fall of Elizabeth II, just on October 1, 1868 (AP-5 41 ra 42r).
In 1872 the roof and floor of the bell tower were recomposed.
