In 2020, the Oropesa City Council signed an agreement with the Red Cross, and since then they have renewed it annually in order to join forces and provide personalized assistance to those who need it.
Now, in response to the emotional and psychosocial challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Red Cross has implemented the "Cruz Roja Te Escucha" initiative in the municipality of Castellón, a psychosocial support and accompaniment service, managed by a team of professionals made up of volunteers and technical staff.
Since the start of the pandemic, many people have suffered in a variety of ways, be it from suffering from the disease, having affected family members, coping with the loss of loved ones without being able to say goodbye properly, or experiencing stress due to lockdown, economic and job uncertainties. The mental health of young people has also been affected by this unprecedented situation, and the service has extended to the IES Torre del Rei.
The service is currently available to all citizens by calling 900 107 917 and operates from Monday to Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All calls are anonymous and free, providing a safe environment for those seeking emotional support.
On the other side of the "Cruz Roja Te Escucha" line, there are currently 45 volunteers at the first level of guidance, 35 accompaniment people specialized in psychoeducation and accompaniment in solitude, and 26 psychologists and health psychologists for specialized psychological assistance; all of them, perfectly coordinated and structured, are spread throughout the Spanish geography and have been the support of the almost 19,000 brave people who in these three years have come to the service to ask for help. "We greatly appreciate the work that the Red Cross does in our municipality, and we invite all oropesinos who wish to use this service," says Micaela Bermúdez, Councilor for Social Services. “Red Cross professionals are prepared to accompany people in their emotional difficulties or simply to listen and talk about their concerns,” he adds. The pandemic has had a significant impact on our community and it is important to remember that we are not alone. "Cruz Roja Te Escucha" is here to provide support and remember that together we can overcome any crisis.
