Oropesa del Mar celebrated this Saturday, August 12, the XIX Volta a peu Vila d'Orpesa with more than 270 runners in the absolute category and 200 in the children's events. After the suspension of the eighteenth edition in 2022 due to strong winds, the municipality has been able to resume its traditional race with a great reception.
The mayor of the municipality, Araceli De Moya, thanked the runners for their participation in this reunion with the event: “We were really looking forward to celebrating this race again, in which we have incorporated new features with the participants in mind, with which we promote sporting activity among all ages and we are happy to see the involvement of the entire municipality. There are many runners who come from outside and thanks to this event they will discover everything that Oropesa del Mar has to offer.”
The Councillor for Sports, Sonia Bellés, added: “The Volta a peu is one of the most special local races due to the unity and participation between locals and tourists. This year, a few metres have been added to pass through the old town, where the Colla Dolçainers i Tabaleters l´Embolic d´Orpesa were waiting for them. The participants welcomed the new features of this edition.”
The XIX Volta a peu Vila d'Orpesa started at 7:00 p.m. with the children's events of prebenjamin, benjamin, alevín and infantil. An hour later the countdown began for the start of the absolute category from the Town Hall and a route of 8,000 meters throughout the municipality.
In the men's general category, the victory went to Fernando Ruíz Sánchez, from Elite Cementos; followed by Mario Álvarez Caravaca, from Playas de Castellón, and Julen Etxebarria Urrosolo.
In the general women's category, the best time went to Ilse Geldhof, an independent runner. Second place went to Carolina Muñoz Irimia. Patricia Guerrero Muñana, from Runners Torrejón, completed the women's podium.
