The Minister of the Environment Salomé Pradas will inaugurate in Oropesa del Mar the third Congress for the Regeneration of the Spanish Coasts “Every grain of sand counts” on October 20 and 21

For the third consecutive year, Oropesa del Mar organizes the Congress for the Regeneration of the Spanish Coasts “Every grain of sand counts” on October 20 and 21. An event that, for three years, has turned the municipality into the forum for demands and solutions to stop the regression that affects both the beaches of the northern coast of Oropesa del Mar -Morro de Gos and Amplàries- and those of other so many municipalities on the Spanish coasts, especially in the area of the Valencian Community. And that, as the mayor of Oropesa del Mar, Araceli de Moya, has stated, “it has more and more interest and support, as shown by the fact that Salomé Pradas, Minister of the Environment, Water, Infrastructure and Territory of the Generalitat Valenciana will be in charge of opening these sessions on Friday the 20th.”. For his part, Vicente Martínez Mus, General Director of Coasts, Ports and Airports of the Consell, will speak at the beginning of the session on Saturday the 21st.

Over two days, experts from the fields of geography, coastal dynamics, meteorology, environment and territorial planning will share their perspectives on coastal regeneration. With a program that has the participation of prestigious professionals from different disciplines: José Serra, professor of Ports and Coasts at the UPV of Valencia; Jorge Guillén, researcher at the CSIC Marine Sciences Institute; José Miguel Viñas, physicist and meteorologist; José Manuel Peña Olivas, Technical Advisor for Environmental Studies at CEDEX; Salma Cantos, lawyer specialized in Public Law and professor of Urban Planning at the UPV of Valencia and Santiago González Varas, professor of Administrative Law at the University of Alicante.

Furthermore, as in the two previous editions, Oropesa del Mar aims to be the meeting point for administrations, municipalities affected by the regression of their coastlines, as well as civil society. So far, mayors and representatives of the municipalities of Almassora, Benicàssim, Burriana, Moncofa, Torreblanca and Xilxes have confirmed their participation in this congress. Other municipalities in the Valencian Community will also take part, such as Canet d'en Berenguer, Marenys de Barraquetes, Sagunto and Calpe. In this sense, Araceli de Moya has pointed out that “The regeneration of the coasts is an urgent priority in which all of us who are involved must add synergies and row together. And in this regard, at this congress we will announce an important initiative, because this is a long-distance race in which we must all win."

In the third edition of the Congress for the Regeneration of the Coasts of Oropesa del Mar, which will be broadcast online through the YouTube channel of the Oropesa del Mar town hall, there will also be space to learn about the contributions of engineering companies that have participated in studies for the regeneration of the coastline, such as Ingemed, and companies that develop solutions to stop regression, such as Hope & Effort, based in Torreblanca. Likewise, both businessmen and hoteliers from Oropesa del Mar, as well as the Servigroup Hotel Koral Beach hotel, will also contribute their perspectives, because, as Isabel Moya, councilor for Playas de Oropesa del Mar, has pointed out, “As in the previous two years, the objective is to address the consequences of the regression of our coastline both from an environmental point of view and due to the economic and social cost it entails, because every grain of sand counts and there is no time to waste."  In this regard, in this edition, once again, citizen platforms will intervene and present, on the 21st, their demands for the regeneration of the beaches of their municipalities, with the participation of Manuel López, founder of SOMOS Mediterrània, as well as the platforms Morro de Gos, Save the beaches in the South of Gandia and the associations of residents of Les Deveses beach and for the Defense of the northern beaches of Denia. “Both the platforms and the Oropesa Del Mar City Council are working hard and together, which I particularly appreciate, so that our just demands can be heard from Costas. In this way, the city council becomes, once again, a spearhead in the defense of our coast.” Points out the beach councilor Isabel Moya.
