The Orpesa City Council, through the sports department, continues to bet on  sports tourism

Mediterranean Epic Triathlon was born in 2022 as an evolution of the Oropesa del Mar Triathlon as an objective within the sports tourism project promoted by the Oropesa City Council in 2017. Betting on national and international level tests, the mayoress of Oropesa del Mar, Araceli de Moya and Héctor de la Cagiga (organizer of the Mediterranean Epic Triathlon), together with the Councilor for Sports Sonia Bellés have announced that next year Oropesa del Mar will add a long distance triathlon to its sports calendar.

The 2023 edition will be held on September 15-16. As a novelty, there will be a double-day competition, on Saturday September 16 the HALF Distance will be held, which includes 1,900m swimming, 90km cycling and 21km running and on Sunday September 17 the shorter distances: Olympic and Sprint.

The objective this 2023 is to keep the queen test on Saturday but also offer the popular ones the way to take part in the event on Sunday. The event is presented as a weekend experience for the athlete and the family, with a program of parallel activities. The estimated participation is 600-700 triathletes. The test in 2023 is positioned as an International Event PTO (Professional Triathletes Organization) in addition to being a Scoring Test of the National Middle Distance Ranking and Regional Middle Distance Championship.

The evolution of the Mediterranean Epic Triathlon for 2024 incorporating a Long Distance (Full Distance), has been a commitment to consolidate an exclusive event. An event with appropriate and safe circuits and with proven organizational quality, which is added to an attractive venue and a hotel offer to host large events. Today  There are only 2 events of this distance in the Valencian Community (Gandía and Peñíscola) and a total of 9 nationwide.

Making the leap to Long Distance involves a significant effort not only from the Organizer, but from all the Administrations (Oropesa Town Hall, Cabanes Town Hall, Generalitat Valenciana and the Castellón Provincial Council) that support this project.either. “Offering the 4 distances makes the Mediterranean Epic Triathlon a unique event and very focused on the clubs that can participate in a massive way in this test with challenges at all levels. Undoubtedly, adding long distance is a novelty that is the result of our firm commitment to sports tourism to extend the tourist season in the municipality ”, explains the mayoress of Oropesa del Mar, Araceli De Moya.

The sports councilor Sonia Bellés comments that  "The fact of including the 'Full' distance will not only have an effect on the participation of that distance, but will also help to improve the participation of the other 3 distances, thus achieving a greater economic and media impact since there are very few events at the national level of this distance and they attract great interest from the media and fans and a greater number of overnight stays.”

All these factors will undoubtedly be a great attraction for national and international triathletes and fans.
