Programming XXI International Festival Puppets to the Sea Oropesa del Mar
Oropesa del Mar is preparing to host the 21st edition of the international festival 'Títeres a la Mar', one of the most iconic summer events in the municipality, which will be held from 18 to 23 July. Oropesa families will enjoy six days of artistic performances on the street, with a dozen shows scheduled by companies from different enclaves in Spain and other countries such as Cuba, Mexico and Argentina.
The Cuban company La Mar Esperanza will kick off the festival with its play “Historia de Reyes” (History of Kings) this Tuesday, July 18, in Plaza María Cambrils Sendra. The theatrical event will take place in different locations in the municipality, such as Playa de la Concha, Plaza Mallorca or the Jardines del Faro. This initiative promoted by the Department of Tourism has established itself as the oldest puppet theatre event in the province and one of the most important at a national level.
The Mayor of Oropesa, Araceli de Moya, highlights “the importance of a festival that brings theatre to all the families who visit us these days and that for more than 20 years has had great acceptance among Oropesa families. Thanks to the quality of the productions over the last two generations, it has created a loyal public that waits every year for the puppets at sea”. For his part, the Councillor for Tourism, Rafael Herminio Albert Roca, has praised a festival that “has become a real tourist attraction, which also promotes culture among the youngest”.
The programme will continue throughout the week with performances of the plays “Puss in Boots” and “The Bremen Town Musicians” (El retablo de la ventana, Argentina), “Batucats” (La extranya companyia, Alicante), “Pinocchio” (La Caixeta, Alicante), “Riofaunando” (Títeres la Matatena, Mexico), “The Ugly Duckling” (La carreta teatro, Elche), “The Wolf is Coming” (Kamante Teatro, Asturias) and “The Magic Wand”.
